Why Giessen?
Study in a walkable city
and stay connected to the world
Giessen is among the top three cities in Germany with the highest proportion of students, who make up around 40% of the population. The city offers significantly lower living costs compared to metropolitan areas while providing all the benefits of modern German cities without losing the charm, accessibility and safety of smaller cities. Life on and off campus in Giessen is relaxed and youth-driven.

Downtown Giessen combines tradition and progress, with shopping possibilities, cafes, bakeries, restaurants, museums and movie theatres. The environmentally friendly city prioritizes green spaces, facilitates using bicycles and incorporates new technologies as the driving force of change and improvement.

Frankfurt Skyline
Ideally located in the heart of Germany, Giessen is just 40 minutes from Frankfurt and 50 minutes from Frankfurt Airport, one of Europe’s largest international airports and Hesse’s gateway to the world, with connections to almost 300 destinations worldwide. Frankfurt’s location in Rhine-Main region, the industrial and financial centre of Germany, offers exceptional opportunities for internships, networking, professional events and career development.

Excellent public transport links Giessen not only to Frankfurt but also to major cities such as Cologne, Bonn, Mainz, and Stuttgart. Combining vibrant urban life with the charm of smaller towns surrounded by picturesque countryside, the region offers an ideal environment for studying, working, and enjoying the best of both worlds.

THM collaborates with Justus Liebig University, the other major university in Giessen, to promote a friendly and welcoming environment for all students. The students can choose to live in dormitories (managed by Association for Student Affairs), or shared flats. There are a lot of opportunities to spend time with students from all over the world in on-campus cafeterias and recreation spaces.
